Best Interest Assessments are used in immigration cases to determine what outcome best supports a child’s welfare. It plays a critical role in applications involving deportation, asylum, and family reunification. At Social Work Immigration Matters our approach reflects international standards, including UNHCR’s Best Interests Determination framework, ensuring that each report considers emotional wellbeing, family relationships, cultural identity, and durable solutions. These assessments provide vital evidence under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights and help ensure that immigration decisions are made with the child’s welfare at the forefront.
At Social Work Immigration Matters we typically explore:
• The child’s emotional, psychological, and developmental needs
• Their relationship with family members in the UK and abroad
• Risks associated with separation or relocation
• The child’s views, where appropriate
• Cultural identity, education, and long-term stability, and durable solutions.
